The mailboxes in Mail's side bar were organized without all of the numeric-labeled daughter folders mentioned above instead, each message displayed as a single file with its filename the same as the subject of the message. Instead of spending my time following his advice, I trashed the problematic imported mailboxes, exported each one on the old MacBook Pro, copied the exported folders to the new MacBook Pro, then imported them with the "mbox" radio button checked instead of the "Apple Mail" radio button. He said this because I mistakenly informed him that my new MacBook Pro had one third-party app (a cloning utility certified for Sierra), and he attributed the symptom to that app. I called Apple Care, got referred to a senior advisor, and his recommendation was to wipe the MacBook Pro's flash RAM drive, reinstall Sierra, and reimport all of my mailboxes without any third party software installed. In the dialog which displayed, I clicked the "Apple Mail" radio button (i.e., the email app from which the importing would be done).Īfter Mail completed processing and importing the mailboxes (~25 with varying numbers of saved messages), I found that the resulting mailboxes in Mail's sidebar were organized in folders which had numeric names and multiple daughter folders which would make navigation and future saving of messages messy. I then selected Import Mailboxes from Mail's File menu on the new MacBook Pro and navigated to the copied Mail folder which I put in the Downloads folder. How to Remove Apps on Mac, similar to Emailchemy. To transfer saved Mail messages from an old MacBook Pro (Mavericks.5 USB type A ports) to a new one (Sierra.1 USB type C connectors on Thunderbolt 3 ports), I copied the user Library's Mail and Mail Downloads folders from the former to the latter. A recent feature for the El Primero, a stop-seconds mechanism now allows for precise setting. Measuring such a short fraction of time is already a feat, making it perfectly visible is even better! Besides, it is spectacular to watch!Īmong other notable features, the power reserve has been beefed up to 60 hours (versus 50h before), thanks to an optimised kinetic chain. That’s six times the speed of a normal chronograph hand. Taking full advantage of the 5Hz frequency of the El Primero (that beats at a rate of 10 vibrations per second), the central chronograph hand makes one turn in 10 seconds. The most visible upgrade is its ability to display 1/10th of a second. Originally presented on the occasion of the 50 th anniversary of El Primero in 2019 with the Chronomaster 2 limited editions, the El Primero Calibre 3600 chronograph is the most striking evolution of the movement. It is available in two different variations: matte white or matte black.Īs mentioned, besides this sportier look the new Chronomaster Sport also comes with a performance jump and an exceptional movement that renews the technical values that have forged the legend behind the El Primero and Zenith. Arranged in a V shape, they are paired with faceted hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova. The three overlapping sub-dials consist of the two chronograph totalizers (60 seconds and 60 minutes) and the running seconds. The dial of the Chronomaster Sport comes in Zenith’s signature tri-colour and tri-compax layout – with silver, anthracite and blue counters. But after half a century, it was time for a major performance jump with an evolution of the movement that takes full advantage of its 5Hz frequency, in order to measure and display the 10 th of a second. But the movement has also been updated in the frame of continuous optimization, in particular, by incorporating modern technologies to evolve in synchrony with the times. The re-industrialisation of the movement in 1987 (under the reference Calibre 400) was the occasion to introduce several improvements. In more than 50 years of history, the El Primero has evolved in many directions. Beyond its historical importance, El Primero’s longevity speaks for itself. Part of the trilogy of automatic chronograph movements that hit the market in 1969, it is the only one that is still produced to date. Presented in 1969, the Zenith El Primero has become an undisputed horological icon. Meet the new Zenith Chronomaster Sport, and don’t miss our video review above to see how it looks on the wrist. As 2021 kicks off, Zenith unveils a new sporty and technical iteration of the collection with a sharp new look outside and a significant boost inside. Today, it is the most emblematic expression of the iconic El Primero movement. More than 20 years later, this sports chronograph has become one of the brand’s key collections. It comes with a Book only, as pictured. The Zenith Chronomaster has spawned numerous versions and generations since it was originally presented at the 1994 Basel watch fair. It is in proper working order and keeping time. The clasp has some light marks, but nothing deep. The original strap has some staining on the underside, but the topside is in great shape with plenty of life left. The new strap was worn maybe twice and has no marks or stains. I did not attach the one side of the strap to the clasp so there aren’t too many marks from the clasp on it. It has a Brand New Zenith strap attached and the original strap is included. There are no deep scratches or dings on the case. This watch is in Near Mint Condition with only a few light marks from careful wear. The Zenith El Primero Chronomaster XXT Open Power Reserve has a 45mm Stainless Steel case, El Primero Automatic movement, Caliber 4021, Chronograph, Power Reserve indicator, Water Resistant to 30M, Glare Proof Coated Sapphire crystal, Exhibition back, Light Grey Open dial, on a Black Alligator strap with Stainless Steel Deployment clasp, Model Number 03.1260.4021 So if you’re looking for a restaurant to watch football, come on in today and get ready to cheer your favorite team to victory.Īmong the many reasons customers return, our food is by far the most popular excuse to visit. Mix the crushed Vitamin C tablets with 3 to 4 tablespoons (44 to 59 mL) of shampoo. Leave it on for 30 to 60 minutes, rinse out, and follow with a hydrating conditioner. Buy white Vitamin C tablets from your local drug store, and crush up 15-30 tablets in a resealable plastic bag (15 tablets for shorter hair, 30 for longer hair). "While all skin types are equally at risk for dye staining, if you are using topical retinoids or products like alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids, the skin may be more prone to irritation from the dye because it will more easily penetrate the exfoliated skin." Warm a few drops in your hands and swirl the oil into the stain in soft, circular motions with your fingertips, and the dye should melt right off without much pressure or roughness. To make matters worse, certain skin types are extra susceptible to staining and, potentially, irritation from hair dye. If exposed to the skin, it can also penetrate through its outer layer, causing a semi-permanent tint," dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, M.D., tells Good Housekeeping. "The pigment in hair dye is designed to penetrate through the outer cuticle of the hair and remain there, infusing long-lasting color into the hair shaft. We'll let the market decide on their success. The players who are into action games must have heard about Max Payne 3. Of course, what really matters is whether players will adopt these devices or not. It is a sign that the industry is changing and investigating new platforms and new opportunities in the space emerging between mobiles, tablets and consoles.įrom our perspective, it was easy to bring The Respawnables to Project Shield and it looks and plays really well. The Respawnables is coming out on Nvidia Shield, so what's your view on devices like Shield and Ouya? We may consider some second party developments, though, if it gives us control over game development and IP creation, as well as the production muscle to develop something great and working with a talented team from which we can learn. Therefore we're now focused on creating new IPs and building up The Respawnables. Therefore, we've been offering characters, weapons and gadgets from the Ghostbusters and Men In Black worlds in our game.įurther to this experience, what's your business strategy for Digital Legends going forward?Īfter testing different business and development models - own IP, pay-per-download, co-production and work-for-hire - we've realised that developing your own IP is what generates real value for a company. Overall, the idea has been to innovate licensing in mobile games and mash-up movie IP with The Respawnables. We had a very good relationship with Sony Mobile - the former Sony Ericsson team - because we were a launch partner for Xperia Play with Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, and then with Battlefield Bad Company 2 with EA. The importance of quality versus quantity when it comes to user acquisition is vital.Īlso, players are very demanding when it comes to quality and penalise you in reviews when you fail, but equally they react positively and even upgrade a previous rating when you communicate with them or include their requests.įinally we've been surprised how well the free-to-play model has been received by The Respawnables players, both by payers and by non-payers.Ĭan you explain how your deal with Sony to include characters from MIB and Ghostbusters came about? We were aware of the importance of metrics but have faced the reality of scale, of being overwhelmed with gigabytes of data and learning to make the right priorities and choices. What are the most surprising things you learned about operating a free-to-play game? We have also received a lot of very positive feedback from players who have embraced the game. The reaction has been very positive, over 4 million people have downloaded the game in 6 months and we are even seeing gamers in the forum organising themselves into guilds - this feature is not officially supported yet. We are operating the game servers ourselves, so working on optimising connections, piracy management, players secured profiles, etc. In addition, we've been developing technology and a lot of code related to the back-end. So The Respawnables has come later to Android but it's much more polished and with more content. We're also been dealing with user feedback and requests: we have been receiving up to 40,000 mails per day. Polishing and iterating on single player gameplay and balance, and multiplayer, and introducing features including Ghostbusters and Men in Black branded items thanks to our deal with Sony Pictures. We have been very busy working in parallel on two areas: The iOS version of The Respawnables came out in December 2012, so why have you waited so long to release the Android version? The Respawnables was our first free-to-play experience at this scale and having Zynga dealing with publishing, marketing and user acquisition has allowed us to be focused on the gameplay and important game metrics. We've learnt a lot about what publishing a free-to-play title really means. It has a great team that's easy to work with. Xavier Carrillo Costa: Working with Zynga has been a positive experience. Pocket Gamer: What's it been like releasing your first free-to-play game with Zynga? It's since worked with big brand - EA for Battlefield: Bad Company, with Adidas for its MiCoach range, and a Bruce Lee fighting game.Īnd most recently, it joined up with Zynga for its first big free-to-play title The Respawnables, which is due out on Android very soon. Barcelona-based Digital Legends is one of the veterans of mobile game development.įrom the days of Java and Nokia N-Gage, it was early onto iPhone with Kroll. I frankly was more excited about email, and the same group at Xerox (Advanced Systems Division) had an email system called Laurel that was better in some ways than anything available to the general public even today. It was pure coincidence that I happened to find a job working on word processing. I asked Charles about it and he smiled mysteriously. The test contained an intentional error: one of the instructions said go to step three when it was clear to me that what was meant was go to step 4. Charles Simonyi gave me a programming test, which I found fascinating. When I saw an ad for programmers wanted at Xerox, I had no idea Xerox was even in the computer business, but I applied. I basically knocked on doors at Apple, Atari, and a few other places. I was totally naive about the process of getting a good job. It made such a difference in the creative process to be able to edit my words easily that I knew word-processing was a very, very important innovation.Īfter two years at Harvard my roommate and I decided to take a year off and get jobs in Silicon Valley. But in high school I did my writing assignments longhand in college I wrote my first paper on that manual typewriter, but then used the rudimentary text-editing and word-processing software Harvard had available in the basement of the science center (vi and nroff) to do my economics term paper. I think she underestimated the rate of technological progress. My mother made me learn to type on a manual typewriter because she was afraid if I learned on an electric one I'd never be able to use a manual. By the end of high school I had written a general-ledger system for the New England Red Cross and, in my spare time, an email system. At 13 I volunteered at the Children's Museum in Boston, where I wrote an "Eliza"-like program to talk to the museum guests on a teletype connected to a PDP-1 computer at Bolt, Beranek and Newman, which donated the computer time. I programmed it to simulate traffic lights. My parents bought me a plastic computer called "Digi-Comp I." It had three bits of data memory and maybe room for eight logic gates. I fell in love with both writing and coding young. Hitting ALT-TW tells me the draft version of the document contains 2,752 words, 12,538 characters (no spaces).Ĭould you tell me a little about how you came to code word processing software, your time at Xerox in the 1970s and before that? The following is a lightly edited version of our exchanges, created of course with keyboard editing, mouse highlighting, cut-and-paste, word count, AutoCorrect and the bold icon. Within an hour, Brodie had agreed to be interviewed by email and a few hours later we were swapping questions and answers. Word is the software hundreds of millions, perhaps billions, of us have used to write everything from notes to the milkman and shopping lists to Dear John letters, lists of our hopes and dreams, plans for world-changing events and great novels.īut who wrote Word itself? After Googling that question and discovering the public domain answer to be Charles Simonyi and Richard Brodie I contacted the latter by email and asked him if he would share the story of how he came to help create the software that has become a fixture of modern life. And I got all this without having to buy a Mac (although I did have to upgrade my Victor 12MHz 286 to an AST 386SX with 1MB RAM and 20MB hard drive just to run Windows). With Word for Windows I had a true sense of what a document would look like, the screen was bright and elegant, features were – for once the adjective is spot on – intuitive. Word for Windows was certainly a very different and welcome experience after becoming accustomed to the arcane commands of WordStar, a program I used so often that I once absentmindedly answered the phone saying ‘Ctrl-KD’. I have drafted perhaps tens of thousands of articles and certainly over a million words using versions of this program, going all the way back to version 1.0 running on Windows 3.0, circa 1991, although there were versions of Word for other platforms going all the way back to 1983. I am writing this article on the latest release of Microsoft Word for Windows. Reconstruction and Repaving is scheduled to occur from Milepost 229 to 305 from Summer/Fall 2022 through Fall 2024. Pavement Preservation is now occurring in areas from Milepost 217 to 385 from May to September 2022 that will require short-term closures of individual sites. Significant rainfall in spring 2020 caused a full road failure roughly one hundred and fifty feet (150′) in length at Milepost 127.9. See below for further details about road repairs in the Roanoke, VA area. Roanoke VA is offering a detailed detour route with some places of interest along the way on their website. In this area, drivers should anticipate delays up to 15 minutes, a shifted lane alignment, and a speed reduction to 35 mph. A minor slope repair project is underway at Milepost 119.7 through September 2022 which will be managed using single-lane traffic controls. The Parkway will, however, be open from Milepost 121.4 (US 220) to Milepost 115.5 (Explore Park) providing Parkway access to Explore Park from the South. Repairs will require a full closure of this area ( no access to motorists, cyclists or pedestrians) southbound drivers will need to detour at Milepost 112.2 (VA Route 24) in Vinton, VA and take US 221 through Roanoke to Adney Gap at Milepost 135.9. This project includes concrete repairs to bridge piers, reconstruction and drainage repairs to approach areas, removal of existing asphalt surface and waterproofing membrane, installation of new waterproofing membrane and asphalt surface, and repainting of the steel super structure of the bridge. Repairs on the Roanoke River Bridge at Milepost 114.7 that began in May 2021 are scheduled to be complete by the end of July 2022. Because these short-term closures occur during daytime hours (8am to 4pm on weekdays only) and are dependent on favorable weather conditions, they may not be listed on the road closure chart and don’t usually have a signed detour route.Ĭurrent Road Projects include: Roanoke River Bridge Repairs Planned boom axe closures begin in November and continue through early spring. Both lanes of the Parkway will be closed to all activity (cars, bicycles, and hikers) in active work zones to ensure the safety of the maintenance workers as well as Parkway visitors. This tractor must remain in the travel lanes during operation to properly perform its work while cutting the banks and road shoulders. This work, using a large tractor with a long arm cutting head, helps ensure safe sight distances and a clear right-of-way. In certain severe circumstances, sections may be closed to all traffic – including hikers, bicyclists and skiers.Īnnually, Blue Ridge Parkway staff conduct boom axe operations to help control vegetation growth along the Parkway. It is important to observe all signs and information posted on the NPS website. Some sections of the Parkway cannot be gated and closed, and visitors should exercise extreme caution when traveling in these areas during the winter. These sections are only opened when they are safe for travel. Ice and snow may not melt quickly due to extreme temperatures, lack of sunlight in constantly shaded areas, or thawing and refreezing on bridges, so some Parkway sections may be closed for extended periods in the winter. Ungated sections do not have physical gates that can be closed these sections are open except in emergency situations. An open Parkway is a safe Parkway.īe sure to check road conditions before you travel and during your visit to ensure the areas you want to visit are open.īlue Ridge Parkway road closure information is available on the National Park Service website on a regularly-updated (but not real-time) chart of Parkway sections, noting whether they are closed, open or ungated. Even in summer months, winds at higher elevations have been known to bring down limbs that close sections of the Parkway. Weather-related closures can change quickly during the winter. The Blue Ridge Parkway is open year round except for sections that may be closed due to ice and snow, storm damage, or for construction or maintenance activities. Like any coin variety, sets come with coins that have striking errors or, in this case, packaging errors that make them more desirable to collectors. However, most special sets are identifiable by their unique labels. Collector set guides for rent or purchase can be obtained to help the collector identify differences. The Mint frequently releases commemorative coins for circulation, which means different coins appear in sets. A fifty-cent specimen almost always appears in Mint Sets. Even though the fifty-cent piece is no longer in regular circulation, the Mint still produces it in coin rolls for collectors to purchase. Older sets do not include the Toonie, and newer sets do not include the penny. One-dollar coins have always appeared in Mint Sets, but “Loonies” did not appear until 1988.ĭuring years when the RCM released unique coins for circulation, Mint sets included these specimens. Toonies did not appear in Mint sets until after 1996 as they did not exist before this period. The Royal Canadian Mint states that each proof coin is hand-fed twice through a slow-striking press, hand-polished, and a die is never used for more than 3000 copies to maintain detail perfection.īefore 2012, Mint Sets included one-cent coins (pennies). Quality control for proof coins increased. As numismatic interest in colorful and beautiful Canadian coins grew, so did the Royal Canadian Mint's desire to create options. Before this, Mint sets tended to have a proof-like quality. In 1981, the Mint branched out further and began releasing sets in different qualities ( proof, specimen, and uncirculated). By 1962, the Mint produced hundreds of thousands of sets, all and sealed in pliofilm or polyester film. Slowly, the Mint increased the number of purchasable sets as demand increased. The Mint used this as a "test" to see if interest would grow. In 1954 the Royal Canadian Mint released seven thousand copies of its first uncirculated coin set for general public purchase. Furthermore, the coins did not possess a finer finish when compared to circulated coins as the Mint used the same dies and press. Before the launch, collectors could order uncirculated sets directly from the Mint at face value plus postage. In 1949 the Royal Canadian Mint launched its numismatics department. Brilliant type coins are often struck twice on a numismatic press and receive a higher level of care during the finishing process. These coins appear to collectors as they would to a bank just receiving a fresh shipment. Often, standard uncirculated coins come as they do off the press, like any coin that goes into circulation, but their finish is untarnished by human hands. The Royal Canadian Mint produces two types of uncirculated sets: standard and brilliant. The difference in these is the amount of care taken to finish each coin. |
